Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan: 20 Taon Art Exhibit at the Ayala Museum

I visited the Ayala Museum thrice last year for the Ambeth Ocampo lectures. After the lectures, we roamed around to see the artwork displayed on the ground floor. The Ilustrador ng Kabataan exhibit was my favorite among the three exhibits I had seen because there were lots of artwork there that appealed to my taste. I also loved the lively and fun way Ayala Museum displayed them -- brought my inner child out :)

The exhibit was in celebration of the 20 years since the Philippines' first (and only) organization for children's book illustrators was established.

There were also several 3D art...

If I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be the camote-eating mice, so cute and funny!

And I know it's already past Christmas, but I gotta say that I loved Ayala Museum's Christmas tree! I had to take a snapshot...

At this point, a guard approached me and told me that pictures were not allowed. Whoops! I guess people were only allowed to take pictures during the lectures, but not afterwards.

  11. Your photo of the eggplant-looking character made me remember our Filipino alamat of the ampalaya (I recall that was the same drawing)... This brings me back to my childhood, as I used to read a lot of alamat books that had interesting drawings like these.

    1. I'm sorry, this is an old post. The exhibit ran from late last year til the end of February. Ayala Museum always exhibits art stuff aside from the historical relics they keep on the upper floors. you can check their FB page to see if their current exhibit interests you.

  18. Ayala Museum is really very diverse. I am also amazed with the Golden objects they have excavated somewhere in Mindanao that are considered as priceless and they are displayed here. I watched it in TV and I had goosebumps :)

    1. Yup they have a great collection of porcelain and gold on the upper floors. Got some paintings too and dioramas that look painstakingly done.

  21. I love their artwork. But with the museum's restrictions on photography, nakakapanghinayang as the museum is only 5 minutes away from our office. ^_^

    1. I was surprised because I thought photography was not allowed on the upper floors only (during the first Ambeth Ocampo lecture I attended, he mentioned that we could take pics but only on the ground floor). I went to the museum thrice and after the lectures, people took pictures and videos and there were no issues. The guard only approached me when we were only the last few people inside and I was taking pictures of the tree.

  22. i am a frustrated artist...
seeing these art works made me realize that i can still pursue my dream. why not? ART is something that involves beauty not outside but deeper than eyes can see.

  23. This is so cool! I love this!Boy I am glad that there are still artist out there who draw. I always draw doodles when I was little unfortunately my parents don't want me to be a cartoonist or a painter. I doubt if today's children still draw or doodle. I think they are so focus with modern computer games and gadgets that they don't like to write they prefer to type, right?

    1. I think kids still draw on paper nowadays. Cursive handwriting, probably not so much since everyone's using printed letters and/or typing or texting. Too bad, a beautiful handwriting is also art imo.

  24. I like the exhibit! Especially on how they divided the simple and white stuff with the colorful one. I like how they construct each of the designs! Kudo to them and to you for taking some photos while lecturing! XD

    1. I liked that too. White made it look very clean and neat and prevented the different colors and design from clashing with one another.
