Wanchai at Lucky Chinatown Mall

We dropped by Wanchai for a light late-afternoon snack. Wanchai is a small Chinese restaurant in the Food Junction (small food court) of Lucky Chinatown Mall. I haven't been to their other branches but as far as I know, their other branches are full-sized restaurants while the one in Lucky Chinatown is more of a food stall with a limited menu.

This "express edition" foodie place serves dimsum (P60-85), congee (P110-P120), noodles (P120-P135), rice meals (P120), and rice bowls (P55).

We ordered their Asado Congee, Hakaw, and Shrimp Siomai.

Wanchai asado congee porridge
Asado Congee - P120

The congee was seasoned right. It was filling and not greasy. There were generous portions of asado and these asado strips were meaty rather than fatty.

Hakaw - P85 || Shrimp Siomai - P70
The hakaw and the shrimp siomai, however, were terrible. It was a bit of a struggle to finish them. The pieces of siomai were fused together and uninteresting in taste. They gave me the impression of being generic, tightly-packed frozen siomai that the cook just put in the steamer unthawed. The hakaw pieces, meanwhile, were very soggy. The wrapper disintegrated with the lightest touch. I couldn't decide if those hakaw pieces were like that because they were overcooked or if they had already been reheated multiple times. Very disappointing.

I've read good reviews of the full-sized Wan Chai Tea House branches so I'm still open to trying them, but I'm not going back to the Lucky Chinatown Mall branch.
