Game Review: Escape From Bathroom (Room Escape Game)

I learned about the existence of Eduxtive yesterday and I foresee that I will be spending a lot of time on this site in the coming days. The site has more than 1000 educational games for kids of all ages – from simple coloring and reading games for preschoolers to algebra games for teenagers. Most importantly, there are dozens of room escape games. I consider that important because I love room escape games.

In case you are not familiar with the term, room escape games are a kind of game where you are trapped inside a place (such as a room or a house) and you have to look for things around you and figure out how to use them in order to find an exit. So, yeah, you will have to MacGyver your way out of there.

I tried one I found in Eduxtive called Escape from Bathroom. It attracted my attention because I found the title and the concept humorous.

This game is pretty simple compared to some room escape games I have played before. The graphics is basic so the game loads up very quickly.  There are only two sides that you have to check – the one facing the toilet bowl and the other one facing the door – unlike other games where you have to rotate the view at least four times, plus look up and down.

Green is the predominant color, which is easy on the eyes and refreshing, considering that most other games have white bathrooms. There is a timer so you know how long it takes you to finish the game. The ten squares on the upper part of the screen are for the items you find. I appreciate that the name of the item is shown when the player selects an item, because I have played other games wherein I would find things but take a long time to figure out what they were (and therefore where and how to use them) due to the way they were drawn.

Escape from Bathroom is a quick but fun game. Things are pretty easy to figure out; I finished it in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, though, if you do get stuck, the walkthrough is not available, even though it is written on the screen. The Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Games2World icons all work so I hope the game creator will add a walkthrough and make it available through the Walkthrough link.

Apart from that, I have only two other minor criticisms about the game. First, the instructions contain grammatical and typographical errors. Second, the music is awkward. It goes on a loop but ends abruptly before looping.
