Badet had been raving about Wingman for the longest time, so when Ensogo offered a P500-for-P1000-worth-of-food voucher, I bought two.
Taste
We've been to Wingman twice. The first time was in September, right before attending Ambeth Ocampo's Queridas ni Rizal Lecture at the Ayala Musem. We ordered a dozen buffalo wings (lemon pepper and garlic parmesan), curly twist fries, and Wingman Salad. This is the only evidence of our first visit, since the chicken wings and fries were safely tucked away inside our stomach cavities by the time we remembered to take pictures:

I'm a big big fan of McDonald's twister fries, so I really enjoyed Wingman's curly twist fries (P130). When it comes to chicken wings, I'm partial towards non-saucy variants. Both the lemon pepper and garlic parmesan variants satisfied my taste buds. The Wingman Salad (lettuce with bleu cheese dressing and topped with buffalo chicken breast slices) was a meal by itself. I rarely order salad when dining out since I usually find green salads too bland for my taste, with not enough dressing/seasoning/cheese/meat, that I end up just munching plain lettuce halfway through the salad. I liked the Wingman salad, though. It was seasoned well and there was a generous amount of chicken included.
On our second visit, we ordered a dozen wings again. This time, we wanted to try their burger, but we couldn't decide which one to get so we got Home Run Sliders (choice of 3 mini-burgers), in order to sample the different kinds.

We're Coke fanatics so for dessert, we ordered Deep Fried Coca-Cola (P120). It was a combination of funnel cake, whipped cream, and coca-cola syrup. Big mistake! We left it half-eaten. I don't know if it's an acquired taste but we hated it. Our reaction to it:
Aside from the deep fried coke, Wingman only had one other dessert: Deep-Fried Snickers bar (P220). I wish they would add 'safer' dessert choices like milkshakes or ice cream.
Affordability
Wingman's food were tasty and filling. Portions were big, more than enough for two to share. You can order a half dozen buffalo wings for P180 if you're just craving for wings but not really hungry. A dozen ones (P300) can be a mix of two flavors. Burgers are P230-250 each, including the home run sliders. Money well spent (just skip the deep fried coke)!
Interiors
Our second visit was around Halloween (hence the webs in the pictures below).
Wingman was more of a hole-in-the-wall kind of resto rather than a fancy one. There was an exterior dining area but the interior one was a bit small and the exposed stack of chairs, wires, dishes, etc in the middle of the area made the place look a bit messy at times. I think it would have been better if they had put the counter area at the end of the room, where it wouldn't attract much attention, instead of in the middle. Or at least put a partition that would cover the clutter. It's just a suggestion. As it is, it's no big deal.
The designs on the wall and on the board played on another concept of wingman -- one who flies and maneuvers airplanes, the old-world kind. I hope Wingman will fix the typos on their chalk board soon, tho.
Cleanliness
The place looked a little cluttered at times but I didn't find any reason to worry about the cleanliness.
Service
Reservation for our first visit was a little problematic since Wingman
changed their landline number and I had a hard time finding the new
number (Really, merchants and group buying sites should both exert
effort in contacting voucher holders if they're changing contact info or
address. They had our email addresses, you know...) Anyway, making a reservation for the second visit was smooth and speedy. Servers here weren't as peppy as in other similar joints but they got our orders correct and food was quick to arrive, so I can't really complain. I just wish they'd smile more.

Vouchers really come in handy! You save something and today, a discount no matter how small it is, is still a big deal.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks good! Glad to know that you have had a great dining experience with them :)
Problems do really exist, but the point it here is the foods. They're luscious, yummy and nutritious. Aren't they? What I love to eat is Wingman salad. I like veggies.
ReplyDeleteRight! Their salad is great :)
Deletei never tried voucher yet but for the price of 500 ,it seems reasonable. the food looks good and worth a second visit or more.

ReplyDeletei want the buffalo wings! oh, i am curious with the Deep Fried Coca Cola. first time to hear it and surprised you hated it.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I have not been to The Collective yet. I've heard that there are a few food establishments there that are worth trying. So should I get the chance to drop-by, I'll make sure to follow your trail and eat at Wingman. :)

DeleteI'm intrigued by deep friend coca cola! I sometimes dip bread into soda so I'm wondering if it tastes the same. But I'm also curious why you hated it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried dipping bread into soda so I can't compare. The taste of the deep-fried coke didn't appeal to me (even to bf, who is not picky when it comes to food). But that's just us. Maybe you'll like it :)
Deletewow you are so lucky to have that voucher
ReplyDeletemy mom would love the place...she likes wings...oh and the salad looks nice.
ReplyDeleteOMGGGGGGG Buffalo wings!!!! Nomnomnom
ReplyDeleteThe food is still yummy but I hope they would do something about their interiors. Doesn't look inviting at all.
