BC Burgers and Chix in Kapitolyo, Pasig

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Mr. John Chung, inviting us to try their new resto, BC Burgers and Chix. Before going, I had to confirm that they were open to constructive criticisms (if any). Truth be told, he had me at hello "our wings flavor are different, we have 11 flavors to choose from".

the ridiculously cute mascots - I hope to see more of these guys!

BC is located in Kapitolyo in Pasig, inside the Pioneer Centre compound. Upon getting off at Boni MRT station, one can take a tricycle ride to reach the place. BC shares the parking space with the other establishments in the compound but finding a slot is not a problem, even on a Saturday night. Hailing a cab afterwards is easy and there are also several tricycles parked near the entrance.

Taste

We got to try BC Burgers and Chix's Mojo Fries, Gambas al Ajillo, Blue Lemonade, Pink Raspberry Juice, and a buffalo wings sampler consisting of three flavors: Fiery Korean, Classic Buffalo, and Italian Pesto.

The potato wedges are just okay, but we really fell in love with their gambas! The shrimps are plump, fresh, and flavorful, with just the right amount of spiciness. I can spend a night munching order after order of  gambas.

The buffalo wings sampler BC served us consisted of 4 pieces of chicken per flavor. The sampler is not in the menu (I'm not sure if you can request for it). According to our server, a regular order of the buffalo wings consists of six pieces of chicken, so yeah, if you order buffalo wings, you'll get more chicken than the ones in the pictures below.

The Fiery Korean is the owner's personal favorite. It has a distinct Asian taste and a slightly-alcoholic flavor due to fermented Korean beans used to prepare it.

The Classic buffalo wings has medium heat -- hot enough to give you that spicy kick but mild enough for those who are not much into spicy food or have low tolerance for hot stuff.

Instead of offering buffalo wings with several levels of hotness, BC Burgers and Chix offers more variety. Buffalo wing lovers like me don't have to settle for the "usual", as BC offers 11 flavors. You can have more common flavors like the Classic Buffalo or Italian Pesto, or go more adventurous with flavors like Mexican Tequila or Binagoongan.

In BC Burgers and Chix, it's all about choices. It's not just the buffalo wings that come in a wide variety, there are also a lot of choices when it comes to burgers and imported beer.

Another thing I like about the food in BC is the presentation. Although it's casual dining here, the food is presented better than in other buffalo wings and burger joints. Similar restos usually use disposable or easily reused, plain-looking food containers, but BC uses festive, visually attractive dishes and there's a bit of food art going on, even with the dip and the humble plain rice.

Affordability

The food is pocket-friendly and prices are easy to remember -- all kinds of buffalo wings and burgers cost P160. The Blue Lemonade and Pink Raspberry Juice (as well as the Iced Tea) are all bottomless, priced P60 each. I don't drink alcoholic beverages so I don't pay attention to beer prices in general, but according to John, their imported beers are cheaper than ones sold in other restaurants.

Interiors

BC Burgers and Chix has a police theme. The tables and chairs are simple and practical. The restaurant is still in the soft opening stage so the walls are still pretty much bare, but John showed us a couple of pictures they were planning to hang on the walls to give the place a bit more character. A TV plays action movies either with audio or captions. I like the fact that BC uses captions so customers can follow the story of the movies. I see a lot of other restos having muted TVs and frankly I wonder why those restos even bother -- how will a customer be entertained while eating if he can't even understand what the heck is happening to the show?

For a bit of police fun, there is a dining area outside where diners can pose in a police lineup (ala The Usual Suspects) or use photo stand-ins to pretend that they are a prisoner or a sexy cop.

Just some small criticisms: I hope BC can repaint the scratched part of the wall in the dining area outside as well as fix their signage (the upper part of the letter C is not lighting properly). Both look off for a resto that has just opened.

Cleanliness

The place is clean and orderly. The wash area is inside the comfort room and the comfort room is also clean and properly stocked. Unlike Buffalo Wild Wings and Buffalo's Wings N' Things where I found the liquid soaps good enough to wash away the grease and the smell of the food from my hands but too watery that I had thoughts about the establishment scrimping, BC uses foam soap that feels more luxurious. There's a paper towel dispenser at the sink and another tissue dispenser near the toilet bowl and an exhaust fan aids in keeping the air fresh. There is also a bidet attached near the bowl, very convenient and something which I don't see in most restaurant toilets.

Service

Service is good. The food arrives quickly and the servers are attentive. We didn't even have to wave to them to get our glasses refilled, they took the initiative to do so.

  12. I like the platting, except for how the mojo fries look like. Also, I hope they do something about the silver tables and the monoblocks, for me it doesn't match their theme.

But I'll pay this one a visit. :-)
