Sushi Buffet and More @ Sakae Sushi SM North Annex

I had been wanting to try Sakae Sushi just to try their sushi conveyor belt system, but it kept slipping off my mind. One time, while walking around SM North Annex, we passed by Sakae Sushi so I dragged bf to finally check out the resto.

I plopped down on one of their dining couches and ogled the food parade on the conveyor belt. Bf was curious as well, but his love for steaming hot noodles exceeded his love for mechanical objects that night, so he ordered Curry Udon instead of trying out the sushi buffet. Eyeing rows of cute colorful soda bottles near the wall, we inquired with the waitress and decided to sample one of those sodas. The Blueberry Ramune soda had a unique bottle with a marble-like component. The unique design fascinated us; we took home the bottle.

Taste
I wasn't very hungry that night but the price of a la carte sushi could easily match that of the buffet, so I opted for the buffet. The sushi buffet included miso soup and a glass of iced tea. The sushi were okay. Not rave-worthy but good enough.

Bf, a big fan of hot soups and noodles, enjoyed his curry udon. According to him, it had a soothing effect on the throat and nostrils.

Affordability
The sushi were in color-coded plates. Red and purple plates cost P99 each, green plates P79 each, yellow plates P59 each, and blue plates P39 each. The sushi buffet cost P399 pesos for adults, P199 for kids. Miso soup and bottomless hot or iced tea were included. The buffet was a great deal since you would only need to consume as few as four red or purple plates of sushi to match the price of the sushi a la carte.

The curry udon cost P249 but it was big and filling. The blueberry ramune soda (and other similar sodas) cost P99. It was more of a novelty type of drink, due to the fancy color and the bottle design. The bottle did not contain much soda, so we deemed it expensive and would not order it again now that we have satisfied our curiosity with the drink.

Interiors
Sakae Sushi had a very cheery and modern ambiance. The furniture were tasteful and functional. Lighting was good. Decorations were cute but not annoyingly cute. They had merchandise on display, featuring their Keroppi-looking mascot, but the display was not cluttered or tacky.

  1. Nice place, sumptuous food, and serene atmosphere. The place also reminded me of the (in)famous Johnny English.

Just a question. Will the sushi buffet end any time soon?

    1. I haven't been back to Sakae Sushi since this review but I don't think so. Sakae Sushi has been around for several years now and the buffet has always been their main selling point.
