The Sakuramochi Ame candy was given to me by a friend who came from Japan. I'm not sure where you can buy it here in the Philippines. Maybe they're available in Asian grocery stores.
Sakura means cherry blossom while mochi is a sticky snack made from pounded glutinous rice.
The Sakuramochi Ame candy comes in a an attractive pink box with a floral design. Before tasting the candy, I was expecting it to be soft and chewy, sort of a cherry-flavored Potchi.
There are 10 pieces inside the box, individually wrapped. The wrapper sticks to the candy and is hard to remove. Thankfully, you don't have to. Just pop the candy into your mouth and chew. The wrapper dissolves in the mouth and is edible. I'm not sure what it is, probably rice paper. It is similar to the wrapper of the chewy kind of White Rabbit (the one that got banned, unfortunately).
The candy itself is sweet and soft. It is gummy, with a slightly floral flavor. It tastes okay, but it may take a little bit of getting used to if it's your first time to eat something that has a flowery taste.
